THE BAND

_MG_1029_Master_edit

Here it is: The main course. With an explosive horn section, soaring vocal harmonies, and the tightest rhythm section this side of the Hudson, Kinky Spigot and the Welders ignites the dancefloor like no other band.

Playing only the best music—from ‘60s soul to throwback ‘90s jams and contemporary pop and indie sounds, Kinky Spigot will make your wedding or event as fun and vibrant as it deserves to be.

The standard band is 10 pieces: three horns, three singers, and a four-piece rhythm section, with male and female vocals. But, we’re completely customizable to fit the needs of your event–we can shrink to a minimum of 7 players, or expand with extra horns, vocalists and percussion up to a 12-piece.

We work closely with each client to design a song list tailored to your tastes. For weddings, we’ll work with you to figure out how to compliment the tender moments (special dances, cake cutting, etc). And we’ll even learn a couple of special requests for each event we play. It’s our job to make sure that your night is unforgettable from start to finish!

ADDITIONAL SERVICES:

Acoustic Guitar Ceremony

Our most popular option for ceremony music is acoustic fingerstyle guitar. Our guitarist beautifully fingerpicks instrumental renditions of everything from Beatles and Paul Simon classic to traditional American tunes, creating an intimate and romantic ambience for you and your guests as you tie the knot. Walk down the aisle as the notes of “Here Comes the Sun” (for example) ring out through the hushed hall. Set-up is simple and songs are customizable – a partial list is available on our “Songs” page. Classical String Quartet

If you are looking for more traditional wedding ceremony music, you might consider a string quartet. Walk down the aisle to classical airs played on violins, violas and cellos as couples have been doing for centuries. We work closely with New York-area string groups, giving you the option of bringing a classical sound to your wedding without having to deal with multiple vendors. Also lovely for a cocktail hour indoors or out.

Jazz Organ Trio

One of several mini-ensembles we offer apart from the full band: book our jazz organ trio to create a swinging ‘60s lounge mood for your cocktail hour. On jazz organ, tenor saxophone and drums, we’ll set the tone with everything from jazz standards to groovy boogaloo and soul-jazz. Think: what the characters of Mad Men might have heard while downing after-work martinis. Our most popular cocktail hour option

Bluegrass Band

Kinky Spigot and the Welders boasts an in-house bluegrass band, known as the Dogbottom Boys when they’re gigging around New York. Hire our trio of stand-up bass, guitar and mandolin to inject a warm, rustic energy to your event with bluegrass, Americana and old-time standards. Artists covered include Tony Rice, Bill Monroe, David Grisman and the Stanley Brothers, among others. Great for cocktail hours. Instant summertime vibes guaranteed. Stomping and/or clapping encouraged. Sample video here.

Old-Time Dixieland Ensemble

Add a vintage vibe to your wedding or event by booking Kinky Dixie for your cocktail hour. Our in-house dixeland jazz band brings you a classic New Orleans jazz sound that will transport your guests back to a 1920s, Prohibition-era dance hall. Our six-piece ensemble features clarinet, trombone, guitar, upright bass, and drums and plays repetoire you’d recognize if you ever listened to Louis Armstrong or the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. DJ Services

Sometimes, a killer 10-piece band is simply not enough. We also offer DJ services for clients who want to have both the excitement of a band as well as thumping power of a DJ. Book the band for the first three hours of your reception, for example, and have one of our fantastic DJs take the party out for the last hour.
